Labour Express Concerns Over Fire Service Cuts

Winchester Labour has expressed concern at plans to reduce fire service coverage in the City. At their meeting on Thursday members received a briefing from City Councillors Janet Berry and Clive Gosling, who himself served as a Retained Firefighter, along with one of his former colleagues.

Members were extremely concerned over the plans to reduce coverage at Winchester to a smaller vehicle with only two full-time officers, meaning that response times for full resource to tackle a fire would be significantly extended. They heard that firefighters themselves had proposed alternative options but these were not part of the current consultation, which has seen poor promotion and attendance at a recent consultation meeting.

The party is encouraging all local residents and to participate in the consultation which is due to close on 4th December and can be found here.
