Dear Sir

Winchester Labour Party is fielding candidates in every ward in the elections on May 3rd. In Winchester, Labour has a very strong and proud tradition of standing up for all local people. We promote imaginative, innovative and progressive policies which have helped to bring real change for the benefit of the communities we serve and the city as a whole. We have

  • Helped to secure a substantial increase in social housing within the City
  • Guaranteed the implementation of a 20 mph speed limit in residential areas
  • Secured and safeguarded the Neighbourhood Warden service
  • Developed the concept of local democracy ensuring children help to choose play equipment
  • Worked hard to ensure the City Council becomes a Living Wage employer
  • Argued vociferously for sound, community based planning policies, providing the right homes in the right places
  • Worked tirelessly to support the development of a brand new high quality leisure centre
  • Been instrumental in securing the development of Silver Hill 2

The Labour Party locally and nationally stands firm in its efforts and achievements to provide fairness of opportunity for everyone. Locally, it has fought for high quality services, making the city fit for the future, protecting the environment, providing better jobs and genuinely affordable homes in our communities where decent standards of living are a right, not a lottery. Our manifesto includes

  • Increased integration of an accessible & affordable transport system
  • A sustainable environment both locally and nationally
  • Improving the development of the local economy, supporting and encouraging local employment and independent businesses
  • High quality education throughout life
  • Ensuring the transformation of the City Council with better engagement, responsiveness and provision for all residents

A vote for an outstanding local Labour candidate is not wasted. It is a sure way to check the current disproportionate balance of power and it will create substantial opportunities. It will help to check the promotion of austerity and punishment through poverty inflicted upon us by the Tories and FibDems over the past eight years.

Yours sincerely,

Peter Rees
