My name is John James Entwistle known as JJ. I have lived in a council house in Weeke for most of my life although I previously lived in Kings Worthy. I am a member of Young Labour and of my university’s Labour Society and have been a Labour supporter for ten years. I am a 3rd year student of Politics and plan to continue to live in Winchester when my studies end.

I have a keen interest in climate change.  I want the Council to do much more to reduce waste. They could provide an online A-Z directory of what can be recycled by council, shops and charities in Winchester. For example, I collect aluminium foil trays to raise funds for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. There could be more recycling bins in the city for items such as foil.

A new bus station is essential, rather than just having on-street bus stops.  It will be helpful to many residents and visitors e.g. it will be much easier for people who are visually impaired, as I am, to navigate into town and to transfer from one bus to another. Toilets, sheltered waiting areas, and easy access to clear information are also very important. Electric buses could be charged up in a bus station.  Mobility scooters could also be available for hire in the bus station, providing a more integrated transport system.

I believe that we should invest in truly affordable housing, as close to net zero carbon, as possible, and that the Council should make more use of council owned land for this. Young people should be able to continue to live in Winchester and key workers should be able to live near to their work.

I have a strong desire to make an impact in health and disability policies within local government.  I have a lot of first-hand knowledge of the NHS as well as ideas about what needs to be done to make Winchester more accessible for those who are visually and hearing impaired. Everyone in Winchester should be able to have their say in decisions made by the City Council by taking part in forums for under-represented groups such as bus users and those with disabilities.

Vote for John James Entwistle the Labour Party Candidate for the St Barnabas Ward in the Winchester City Council Elections.

Vote for Tony Bunday the Labour and Co-operative Party Candidate for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Commissioner.
