Antony de Peyer
(Please note that there are two vacancies in St Michael Ward)
I am a retired teacher, parent of two grown up children, and have lived in Winchester, in St Michael’s ward, for nearly thirty years. I have been a committed member of the Labour Party for almost as long. In 2003 I was elected a city councillor for the old St John’s and All Saints’ ward which included Highcliffe. Besides the personal satisfaction of helping ward residents with various types of problems, my particular interest was Planning; I served on the Planning Committee for several years. I still retain that interest. After my spell as councillor, and feeling very committed to my ward, I was elected Chair of the Highcliffe Forum for Action (2008-13). I also volunteered to help with reading in All Saints School, Highcliffe, something I did for five years.
The City Council’s priorities in the coming years should be to prioritise all activities that it has jurisdiction over concerning the NHS and Social Care, including (very importantly) all necessary Covid recovery work, construct as much council housing as possible, abolish rough sleeping, work to produce the best possible new Local Plan including work towards a pedestrianised city centre.
